WHAT WE DO

Various ministries to Tibet including literature, teaching, outreach and radio programming and supply of radios. An agricultural project is helping a community develop products commercially. Marriage guidance ministry is also being developed.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Tibet remains an exceedingly difficult region for the Gospel. Among the Kahm people there are very few believers, indeed it is possible that there are no Christians at all among the Northern Kahm group. Regular radio broadcast in the Kahm languages are a significant ministry where both the geography of the country and the distinctive Tibetan Buddhism have proven obstacles to the spread of the Good News.

Cost: £20 provides a significant pack of outreach and training materials for Tibet. £50 helps run a marriage guidance course. £70 is the cost of one day of Christian broadcasting in the Kahm language. Give to Tibet ministries here.

PRAY FOR

While there is a seven hundred year history of missions in Tibet and still only a handful of believers, the harvest is ripe. The Tibetan church is growing and so is the missions force to reach them. Pray for the workers who face some of the harshest living conditions on the planet. Pray that the Lord would place a hedge around them. Pray the 'Light of the nations' would shine into the spiritual darkness of Tibetan Buddhism.

dear readers and prayer partners
i am basically from Nagaland but living in dehradun, north india for the past 16 years. I started mentoring some tibetans and also bible studies. few responded well but almost all of them went back. the evil power gripped them so bad that it is not easy to break them from this bondage. after working with another organisation i came back to work among tibetans again just this september 2010.
continue to uphold us in prayer too. and we would like to see doors open among tibetans soon. many blessings and God's power to everyone

The region of Eastern Tibet is Kham. Not Kahm. This kind of lack of knowledge about who you're preaching to does not help your cause.

Although I am by religious confession a Christian, I really hope that your mission will be finished as quickly as possible, because the non-existent knowledge about Tibet (that shows persistently wrong writing of Kham) is really abad testimony of Christians. Make clear where are you evangelizing and whom are you evangelizing.

You so-called "Christians" should be ashamed of yourselves, preying on a people that have suffered under the Chinese Communists for so long. You are helping the Chinese to eradicate Tibetan culture. Buddha was born 500 years before Jesus and the Tibetan Buddhist religion is a powerful and compassionate one. I met many Christian missionaries in Tibet, particularly in Xining, and one group of them told my wonderful friend, Gompo, who was working with a British NGO in health care, that he would burn in hell if he didn't convert to Christianity. I have nothing but contempt for the work you do in Tibet and the destruction you are perpetrating there. The sooner the Christian missionaries pack their bags and go back to where they came from, the better. Shame on you.

I just bumped into this site after searching about Christianity in Tibet after seeing a documentary about Catholics in Tibet needing priests on a Catholic channel a relative was watching (God in Tibet).
I'm encouraged to hear that people are caring for this nation. Karen makes an interesting point-- let's be careful when we do share God's love that we don't preach our own culture. We must remember it is God who made people and cultures, the good aspects, and He is for every culture. The message of Jesus preached faithfully doesn't kill a culture it enhances it! Buddhism, like any belief came to Tibet, if I am correct, so it isn't that the cultures are inseparable... Check that documentary to see very old Catholic communities in Tibet-- eye opening even if you are not Catholic.
Any one inspired to provide Sunday school or youth group for that community in the documentary? (CatholicRadioTVNet...)

I seriously suggest to stop this. that is the root problem muslim doesn't like cristian.there is no golden gate waiting for u if u convert somepeople to cristianity. May peace previal on earth.

I am very glad that many missioneries are doing the good job of spreading the holy massage into tibet.I being a tibetan(living in Nepal),i feel that some missineries are making mistake by going right into the tibetan society.there is very big bondage within tibetan, every culture and life style is deeply connected to bhuddhism. One should learn about the tibetan living style and way he most important thing is that tibetan always think that foreigner are outer people. What should be done is that, missioneries must train the few strong tibetans and then spread them into different areas.I am sure that the prosecution will be less the massage of holy kingdom had been delivered by tibetan and people will know better from them because they have the common nature.
I being a tibetan christian living in nepal,i have sighted many nepali churches and Pastor talking loud about the tibetan christianity. They have done this and that for tibetan. But please dont fell into their evil paw.
Tibetan christian are very few in number and all must pray for them.
well it was quite long writing,
amen

I received a plea from Campaign for Tibet today. As a Christian I am struck by the pains of others. Especially when they do not know the love our Creator has for them and the way He made for each of us to be rejoined to Him in perfect loving unity.

All man us fallen from perfection and God alone is love, truth, perfection. We cannot be rejoined to Him except through the salvation of Jesus Christ. Jesus as Gods own son, made flesh and acquainted with all our griefs bore all our sins - yours and mine - together on the cross. He being perfect was made imperfection bearing our sins even to death. So that you dear reader can know the kingdom of God now, accept if God's love and grace.

There is life everlasting, one life, not forgotten, known loved cherished in the great heart of God's love. In a kingdom without end or suffering where we are all known. God sees you. He reaches out to you. He gave of all he is to save you and He bore the penalty of the sins of ALL the world so that you can be eternally joined with Him. Now and forever.

Peace my brothers of the world...

I ask you to receive kindly my brothers in Christ. Do not persecute us in ignorance. We love you.

Message to Christians: if you are really good Christians, then teach Tibetans to become the best Buddhists they can be - only THEN will they be fulfulling Christ's message. Because a pure Buddhist and a pure Christian are the SAME, just different words and perspectives. But the outcome, complete union, is the same. Jesus was teaching in a predominantly Hebrew culture and so spoke the language of Hebrew religion. Tibet is Buddhist and so anyone who really cares should try and bring young Tibetans BACK in to their culture instead of the materialism of western culture so many of them are attracted to. Peace be with you all :-)

I cannot agree with what Pema said. Jesus Christ is God, the Creator of the universe, but Buddha is a human, a creation. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, apart from Him, you know no truth, no way and have no life! A Christian should always tell the Truth, not lie. The Truth is that Jesus is the Only true God, Whom must be worshiped. Worshiping Buddha is worshiping false gods and idols. I suggest you read this:

My grandfather was extreme Buddhist but later found bible an essential for living by listening very carefully to the preaching and later learned himself to read and write Nepali words finally able to read the bible himself. The desire to read the word and self exploring the reality of life, he was also able to preach in a fellowship.

I believe that most of the Buddhist believes in SELF, they want to explore the fact themselves. Therefore, prayer is very necessary that they open their self centered mind to search and read the bible.

I'm saddened by the Christian missionaries I've met here in Nepal. I am an educator by training, and find it appalling that young people go into villages without any training and pose as "teachers," only to do little but have small children paint "Jesus beards" on their faces and proffer candy in exchange for promises of allegiance to Jesus. Jesus was not a "soldier" and real Christians do not adhere to the "army" aesthetic offered up on your website. I agree with Pema. As Thich Naht Hanh, one of the greatest peace and human rights activists of our time, shows us in his great book, LIVING BUDDHA, LIVING CHRIST, a good Buddhist and a good Christian are difficult to tell apart: both live by nonviolent principles, refrain from killing, and adhere to ethical conduct in all areas of their lives. I am especially appalled by the "marriage counseling" being offered by your organization, when the divorce rate among "born again" American Christians is higher than that of the rest of the population. Thank goodness for the Jesuit, Episcopalian, Western-funded Buddhist, and non-religious charities that bring real teachers, real education, and a respect for the cultural riches of this region to their work here. And shame on those who lie in the name of all that is holy, pretending to be teachers when they are simply fanatical egomaniacs.

Christianity and Buddhism are not compatible. It is not naive and dangerous to think there is only one way to God. If it was then Jesus would not have claimed to be the only way, and seeing as he is God himself, then he should know. It is more dangerous to think there are many roads, that each person has their own path and individual journey of faith to obtain salvation from whatever is their experience of 'god'.

It is not for me or anyone else to judge whether or not a person is saved.
Its God's responsibility. We will all face his judgement and the writer of Hebrews reminds us that it is Christ who will bring salvation from God's wrath: Hebrews 9:26-28 But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

The heart of the teaching of the Buddha (lit., “awakened one”) is the Four Noble Truths. The First Truth states that all existence is characterized by dukkha (“suffering,” “pain,” or “discontent”). The Second Truth holds that the root cause of suffering is tanha (lit., “thirst” but often translated “desire”). It is not simply wrong desires but desire itself that results in suffering. The Third Truth says that when desire ceases, then suffering ceases as well. The Fourth Truth introduces the Noble Eightfold Path, which sets out ideals in moral self-discipline, meditation, and wisdom that provide the way to eliminate desire and suffering.

The Buddha held that everything that exists is characterized by anitya, or impermanence, and is continually coming into being and passing out of being as a result of certain interrelated causal conditions. A 12-link chain of causation (the “wheel of life”) explains how these causal conditions produce people’s mistaken perceptions of enduring realities.

The Buddha rejected contemporary Hindu views about the reality of an enduring self (atman), an indestructible soul that passes from one life to another. He claimed that belief in a substantial self is mistaken and results in the grasping or desire that produces suffering. What is normally thought of as a person is merely the ever-changing combination of psychophysical forces—the “Five Aggregates” of matter, sensations, perceptions, mental formations, and consciousness. At death, what passes from this life to the next is not a soul but simply the cumulative karmic effects of actions, which then produce in the next life the (mistaken) perception of an enduring person.

Only nirvana is permanent, unconditioned, and ultimately real. Nirvana is not heaven. Rather, it is a state that is realized when the fires of desire and the conditions producing rebirth are eliminated. Since it is the absence of suffering in any form, it is a state of utter bliss.

Buddhism today is divided into two major groups. Theravada Buddhism, found in Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Laos, and Kampuchea, accepts only the writings of the Pali canon as authoritative, emphasizes the Four Noble Truths in attaining nirvana, and generally avoids metaphysical speculation. Early Buddhists rejected Hindu belief in Brahman, and this atheism is retained in Theravada. Moreover, each person is said to be responsible for attaining his or her own enlightenment (“self-effort”), which is restricted to the few who can master the required disciplines.

Mahayana Buddhism is today found in China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and the West and includes a wide variety of schools. It has developed its own sacred texts and metaphysical doctrines. The traditional understanding of nirvana as release from the cycle of rebirths was largely replaced by Mahayana in China, with an emphasis on attaining enlightenment in this life. Whereas Theravada Buddhism emphasized self-effort in attaining nirvana, Mahayana opened the way to the masses by acknowledging a vast multitude of spiritual beings, such as the bodhisattvas, who assist in the quest for enlightenment. Moreover, the Pure Land schools, the most popular form of Buddhism in Japan today, teach that rebirth in the Pure Land (a kind of Buddhist paradise) is possible, not by one’s own efforts but solely by relying on the compassion, merit, and “other power” of the Amida Buddha.

Whereas Theravada Buddhism regards Gautama largely as an extraordinary human being who attained enlightenment, Mahayana developed the doctrine of the Three Bodies of the Buddha (Trikaya). The ultimate reality is the Dharmakaya, or the Law Body, an all-inclusive Buddha essence sometimes identified with the Void or Emptiness (sunyata). The many enlightened buddhas and bodhisattvas constitute the Sambhogakaya, or Body of Bliss. The Nirmanakaya, or Transformation Body, refers to the man Gautama as a specific historical manifestation of the universal Buddha nature.

I worked in Kathmandu and Dharamsala in the hospitals and the clinics for several years. I attended Bhuddist services and lived in a monastery. I believed in what I was taught and considered becoming a monk to live and work with these people for the remainder of my life. But a dramatic event prevented me from taking my vows. And by the grace of God I was led back to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and my life was saved. Praise be to GOD and GOd bless the work of these good people.

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:4-6) This verse is very real as to how satan has blinded all people so they can't SEE the GLORY OF CHRIST. Let us ask the LORD OF THE HARVEST to reveal Himself to the Tibetans all over the world for I believe that they are worshiping the "UNKNOWN GOD". I just started studying with a friend who is a refugee after talking about people burning themselves for the sake of their country and I told her that the God that we are studying will not allow anyone to kill themselves so I shared John 10:10 which open our study together. Let us pray that God will open for us conversations that will lead them to want to know tha God that we know of Whom the Tibetans still need to KNOW. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. Let us pray that Jesus who is the Light will shine among the Tibetans from the Dalai Lama to simplest and youngest Tibetan all over the world to bring them out of this darkness (blindbess, His Light to shine over their hearts to receive the knowledge of God;s glory among Christians who are reaching out to them. For we do not preach ourselves but Christians being Jesus' image on earth... Let us be Galatians 5:22-23 carriers.

I give God the glory for getting this opportunity to share my burden with brethren on Tibet. For 15 years I have been praying daily for the salvation of the people and the healing of the land. The burden for the Tibetians was received in 1996 December when I was in Derahdun, India. Since I returned to my country , Nigeria, I have been praying for divine networking for the work in that field. I have a strong burden for this land which has made me to love them with a passion. Like the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali saw a great light in Isaiah 9:1-2, so shall it happen in Tibet if the Lord tarried. As I look forward for a divine network team with this burden, please my mail address is: cyril_jarumai@yahoo.com
